About Me

My interest in watches has been with me for as long as I can remember, but it was my career in aircraft engineering that gave me the skills and perspective to begin making them.

Over a 37-year aviation career, I spent 12 years working directly with aircraft instruments—repairing and maintaining precise mechanical systems where accuracy, reliability, and attention to detail were essential. The connection between those intricate geared instruments and mechanical watchmaking was always there; I simply had not recognised it yet.

That changed after visiting several watch stores during a cruise. Looking closely at the watches on display, it became clear that my engineering background and long-standing interest in watches could become something more. I began researching watch assembly, design, engraving, finishing, and testing, and Asmus Watch Co. gradually developed from there.

What began as a way to keep learning and applying my technical skills has grown into a genuine passion for watchmaking. Today, I assemble, engrave, finish, and test my watches personally. Some are individual bespoke builds developed with direct customer input, while others explore a more focused design philosophy: simple, functional watches made for everyday use and adventure.

Each project gives me the opportunity to refine a process, develop a new skill, or solve a different technical challenge. That continual learning is central to Asmus.

These watches are not mass-produced. They are created carefully, in small numbers, by someone who values the engineering behind them as much as the finished object.
